Deep Cavern Studio: The Habitat of the Artist

A Unique Design by Claudio Hebberecht

Deep Cavern Studio is a one-of-a-kind design that seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings, providing a harmonious space for artists to create and thrive.

The inspiration for Deep Cavern Studio came from the talented glass artist, Aksinia Martinova Balchiklieva. Claudio Hebberecht, the designer behind this project, was captivated by Balchiklieva's work and wanted to create a space that would enhance and complement her artistic process.

What sets Deep Cavern Studio apart is its fully integrated design. The reinforced concrete dome is connected to the Earth by eight elegant arm extensions, allowing for wide arcs of natural light to flood the living space. This design also provides shelter from occasional rainfall and the intense energy of the noonday sun.

One of the most striking features of Deep Cavern Studio is its east-facing position. This allows for the daily entrance of the sunrise through the eye dome opening, creating a serene and inspiring atmosphere for the artist.

The construction of the dome was a significant challenge for the design team. However, with the expertise of architect Isaac Montava Belda, structure calculation by Luis Estevan, and construction by Construcciones Galváñ, the vision of Deep Cavern Studio became a reality.

Deep Cavern Studio spans a total surface area of 450 m2 and is divided into three levels. The lower level houses a hardware studio, while the middle level serves as a living area. The upper level is dedicated to design and exhibition, providing a space for artists to showcase their work.

Deep Cavern Studio, designed by Claudio Hebberecht, has received recognition for its excellence. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2014, a prestigious honor that celebrates well-designed, practical, and innovative creations. This award acknowledges Deep Cavern Studio's ability to meet professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.
